Aussie Cops to be disciplined over fake robbery
02-08-10 16:41

Four police officers will face disciplinary action over a fake heist on a Queensland chemist. The officers from Coomera police station allegedly dressed as bandits and staged a prank robbery at a chemist under surveillance by fellow officers.

It allegedly ended in a tense gunpoint standoff with undercover detectives before being reported by an officer for investigation.

A police statement on Monday said the investigation by the Ethical Standards Command (ESC), and overseen by the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC), was now being finalised.

A spokesman for the CMC said recommendations made by the ESC have been agreed to by the CMC and sent back to the ESC for implementation.

"Senior officers at ESC are presently finalising the process and expect that four officers will be subject to disciplinary action in the near future," the police statement said.

Police Minister Neil Roberts said he was pleased the incident had been reported by an officer.

"The fact this incident was reported by a police officer demonstrates the Queensland Police Service's willingness to stamp out this type of behaviour," he said.

He said he had been assured the investigation's conclusion would be announced shortly.
